In fact, it was indeed easily solved by following the RHEL os-and-sat-upgrade guide.
Just had to connect to a new temporary db during the setup and afterwards connect to the old db again.
cheers!

Woot! Which means I should get my replacement. And if this goes without issue, I'll be in for 3 more.

The new Nyxboards from Pulse-Audio are shipping now. If your's ended up being riddled with hardware issues like mine (keypress detection, range issues) then send them an email an they will ship you one of the new units for free.

Thank you for this very helpful article. Got IPv6 working almost by my self but i've missed the "subnet on the internal interface" piece. Your article helped me find that missing piece.

Hmm... so kickstart is the way to go. I am going to try and see if I can follow that strategy. Thanks for your reply!

For such a one-off install, I'd just get the full installation DVDs and do the installation interactively adding Openbox & deselecting GNOME. Afterwards, you'll have the anaconda.ks.cfg in root's home directory, and I would just remove any/all packages that you don't want to install. And finally, reinstall the system using your kickstart file hosted from a webserver of your choosing.

While I haven't tested this process with an external database, I would say that 'off the cuff' I don't see any processes that would be significantly different. You may add a step regarding having the DBA create a new Oracle database for the new Satellite, and restoring a copy of the old database to the new one. Also, you'd wouldn't probably want to copy over /etc/tnsnames.ora since it'll need to point to a different database on the new server.

Hi, I would like to install a minimal F16 with no Gnome and instead a resource-light desktop on top - for example, Openbox. I noticed that you wrote a post on minimal install a couple years back. Do you have any tips for accomplishing such an install for F16? Thanks for your time!

Hi Rich, are there any special differences with external databases? I assume that during the install script there will be an option to avoid connecting to the database?

thanks for the excellent article by the way, sure clarifies a lot.
